Mahā-rājayoga
Parāsara:
ātmakārakaputrābhyām yogamekam prakalpayet |
tanupaňcamanāthābhyām tathaiva dvijasattama || 4||
Translation: A relationship between the ātmakāraka and putrakāraka
or between the lords of the lagna and fifth house constitutes a
rājayoga.
The Sun is the significator of the first house and is exalted in the
first house of the natural zodiac in Aries, the only royal sign. He
is the lord of Leo the fifth house of the zodiac, which is also its
mūlatrikona (office). Thus, a relationship (yoga) between the lords
of the first and fifth houses or their temporal significators (carakāraka)
constitutes a rājayoga.

lagneśe paňcame bhāve paňcameśe ca lagne |
putrātmakārakau vipra lagne ca paňcame sthita || 6||
svocce svamśe svabhe vā’pi śubhagrahanirīkśito |
mahārājākhyayogo’tra jātah khyātah sukhānvitah || 7||
Translation: If there is (a) an exchange between the lagna and fifth
lords each occupying the others sign and (b) the atmakaraka and
putrakaraka are in the first or the fifth house and (c) in
exaltation, own sign, in own navāmśa or in the signs or navāmśa of
benefic planets, then mahā-rājayoga results. This yoga gives fame
and happiness.
Chart 1 : Rajiv Gandhi
 In this chart Simha lagna has the Lagnesh and the fifth lord Jupiter
conjoined in lagna. Simultaneously, the Atmakaraka Mercury and
putrakaraka Jupiter are also conjoined in lagna. Note that
charakaraka have been used. The dictum of Maharajayoga given by
Parasara is complete.
Rajiv Gandhi was born as the eldest grandson of the first prime
minister of united India, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. thereafter hi
mother, Indira Gandhi, became Prime Minister for a few decades and
finally he succeeded hi mother as Prime Minister. The moot point is
that the Maharajayoga (sloka 6 &7) functioned throughout his life
giving him a royal position, power, fame and all luxuries.
Chart 2: King Abullah II of Jordon
 In this chart Dhanus lagna rises with the lagna rises with the lagna
and fifth lord (Jupiter and Mars) conjoined in the second house.
Simultaneously the Atmakaraka Moon is aspected by putrakaraka Satrun
by its tenth house aspect. The ninth lord Sun conjoins the seven
planet combination in Capricorn and strengthens the Rajayoga.
In both charts 1 and 2, Simhasana yoga is present as the tenth lord
is in lagna or 2nd house conjoined with lagna lord. Simhasana means
throne and the native shall be like a king or leader in any field.
It is necessary to gauge the strength of planets (Shloka 7) in the
rajayoga if these planets are not placed in fifth or first house (as
required via shloka 6).
The fifth lord Mars is in exaltation and causes cancellation of
debility of Jupiter. Both Mars and Saturn (lord of debility sign of
Jupiter) cause cancellation of debility being in kendra (quadrants)
from the Moon. Thus Jupiter gets neecha banga rajyoga. Putrakaraka
Saturn is well placed in Capricorn. The Atmakaraka Moon is in a sign
of Venus and conjoins Venus in Navamsa in the ninth house generating
a powerful dhanayoga (refer charts of Indira Gandhi and JRD Tata for
Venus and Moon in trines for dhana yoga). King Abdullah II is the
Sovereign ruler of Jordania and has enjoyed this rajyoga from birth.
Chart 3: Lee Kuan Yew
 Lee Kuan Yew is the founding father of Singapore and its first
president. In his chart, the lagna lord Venus and fifth lord Saturn
are conjoined in the twelfth house. Venus although in debility, is
conjoined exalted Mercury, the ninth lord as Jupiter (lord of
exaltation of Venus) is in lagna Kendra. Thus, venus attains neecha
bhanga rajayoga. Saturn is a yogakaraka for Libraand its placement
in the 12th house is capable of generating suo moto rajayoga. This
combination indicates that the beginning of rajayoga shall be under
very difficult circumstances. The separation of Singapore from
Malaysia was viewed as a step that would lead to extinction of
Singapore from the world map as the nation- as an island was thought
to be economically unviable. However, the brilliant trade policy
(Mercury) of Lee Kuan Yew and the strong foreign links (12th house)
with the USA and other nations caused it to rise as a leading
economic power of Asia. It became the hub of international trade for
Asia.
The combination of Sun and Rahu may be viewed by some as an eclipse
combination. However, the Sun is the Atmakaraka whileRahu is
Putrakaraka indicating rajayoga. These planets are well placed in
Leo in the eleventh house and the rajayoga functions well due to the
foreign links brought about by Rahu. The conjuction of pitrikaraka
Mars adds to the good fortune. The combination of fifth lord in the
eleventh house with the fifth lord constitutes a major dhana yoga as
well. This rajayoga functioned unhindered from Aquarius Narayan Dasa
(1956-61) to Leo Narayan Dasa (1996) as the planets involved are
Rahu (lord of Aquarius) and the Sun (lord of Leo). It is also
interesting to note that the planet in lagna (throne) is Jupiter and
that the rājayoga was initiated during the period of Jupiter.

In all the rajayoga involving the lagna and fifth lords, the
strength of the yoga was ascertained carefully when this yoga was
not in the first or fifth houses. Similarly, with Atmakaraka and
putrakaraka. Secondly, in the chart of Lee Kuan Yew, the fifth lord
Saturn is as involved as the putrakaraka Rahu who is the co-lord of
the fifth house ruling progeny. Thus, in the year 2004 when Jupiter
transits over Leo and then Virgo (2nd half), it is natural that AK
and PK yoga (Leo) and Lagna and 5th lord (Virgo) yoga shall be
activated in the chart of lee Kuan Yew and his son shall succeed as
the President of Singapore.
Chart 4: A.B. Vajpayee
 In the chart of Śrī Vajpayee, the ātmakāraka Mercury and the
putrakāraka Saturn are conjoined in lagna constituting the rājayoga.
This rājayoga is considerably strengthened by the fact that these
planets are involved in a sūkśma parivartana (exchange of signs) in
the navāmśa. In addition, Mercury is in Jyeśthā nakśatra ruled by it
and so is Saturn fortified in its own nakśatra Anurādhā.
However, the lagna and fifth house lords Mars and Jupiter are not in
any of the four relationships that define a rājayoga. This shows
that Śrī Vajpayee was not born with a golden spoon and instead rose
from the common people. These planets are in mutual aspect due to
rāśi driśti indicating that the potential for a rājayoga exists. So
is the situation with Karaka Lagna1 (i.e. sign occupied by
Ātmakāraka in the rāśi chart).
Instead in the navāmśa, the lagna and fifth lords from lagna are
Venus and Saturn and they conjoin in the twelfth house to form a
rājayoga. So also from kārakāmśa, the lagna and fifth lords are
Venus and Saturn and they conjoin in the ninth house to form a
rājayoga. The use of navāmśa lagna and kārakāmśa has been advised by
Parāsara vide following śloka.
cintayet kārakāmśe vā janurlagne’tha vā dvija |
rājayogakarau dvau dvau sphutau khetau prayatnatah || 3||
Now compare the common factor in all the rājayoga and it is clearly
Saturn. Further, Saturn is also among the two planets placed in
lagna (throne). The naisargika daśā of Saturn started from 1996 and
in the very first Mercury antardaśā (1996-2002) Śrī Vajpayee was
elevated to the position of the Prime Minister of India.
The Nārāyana daśā of Scorpio was from 1991-2001 and during this
ten-year period, the rājayoga was initiated by the BJP gradually
increasing its hold in the parliament. The current Sagittarius
Nārāyana daśā is from 2001-11 indicating a continuity of the
rājayoga as the sign has the tenth lord Sun and lagna co-lord Ketu
constituting Simhasana (throne) yoga {as discussed earlier under the
charts of Rajiv Gandhi and King Abdullah}. Further, the conjunction
of the tenth lord Sun with the amātyakāraka Venus constitutes a
rāja-sambandha yoga (sort of rājayoga). The first one-third of the
daśā (where the results of the beneficial sign are felt) ends in
February 2004. Sagittarius is also the second house (maraca) from
Lagna and the health is questionable. It is a separate issue that we
had predicted in 1996 that the BJP shall be in power for a period of
14 years based on the chart of India.

Chart 5: Adolf Hitler
 In Hitler’s chart, the lagna lord Venus is aspected by the fifth
lord Saturn. Venus is also the ātmakāraka and is conjoined the
putrakāraka Sun in Aries. The mahā-rājayoga conditions are satisfied
although this has not occurred in the lagna or fifth house. The Sun
is exalted and Venus conjoins Mars that is indicating Ruchak
Mahāpuruśa yoga. Saturn is placed in the tenth house in Cancer
generating another rājayoga. Thus, the planets involved in the mahā
rājayoga are strong in the rāśi chart. In this chart dvisaptati sama
daśā shall apply as the lagna lord is in the seventh house.

Adolf Hitler:
Venus daśā (1924-33)
It was during the daśā of lagna lord and ātmakāraka Venus that
Hitler used democratic means and struggled to come to power. By the
end of 1923 Hitler could count on a following of some 56,000 members
and many more sympathizers and regarded himself as a significant
force in Bavarian and German politics. The initial part of the
period was in prison due to the failure of the Nazi Beer Hall Putsch
of November 8/9, 1923. Prison turned out to be a blessing in
disguise, as not only did it attract public sympathy but also gave
him the time to rethink political strategy, beliefs and strategy.
His major plans and beliefs were outlined in the book Mein Kampf.

Translation: If the ninth lord is in Kāraka lagna, fifth or seventh
house and is conjoined beneficial planets, it grants rājayoga.
Venus the ātmakāraka is placed in Aries, which is the kāraka lagna.
The ninth lord (from janma lagna) Mercury is conjoined Venus
constituting the rājayoga. Mercury is a natural benefic planet and
is conjoined exalted Sun and Mars in Ruchak Mahāpuruśa yoga. In the
presidential elections of 1932, during Venus daśā Mercury antara,
Hitler ran an impressive second to the popular World War I hero
Field Marshal Paul von Hindenburg. In the same period in July 1932,
he outpolled all other parties with some 14 million votes and 230
seats in the Reichstag (parliament).

As indicated, Saturn generates a powerful rājayoga by occupying the
throne (tenth house) in Cancer and can be very ruthless. Saturn is
also very well placed in Capricorn in the navāmśa. In the very first
antardaśā Saturn showed its colors. By means of the Roehm purge of
the summer of 1934 he garnered the loyalty of the army by the
subordination of the Nazi storm troopers and the murder of its chief
(an old friend). The death of President Hindenburg in August 1934
cleared the way for the abolition of the presidential title by
plebiscite. Hitler officially became the Fuhrer of Germany - head of
state as well as commander in chief of the armed forces. The
propaganda machine of Joseph Goebbels’s and Heinrich Himmler’s
police system simultaneously perfected totalitarian control of
Germany.
During Saturn daśā Sun antardaśā, Hitler marched into the Rhineland
(demilitarized at Versailles), and successfully intervened in the
Spanish Civil War. As indicated earlier, the exalted Sun is the
putrakāraka in the mahā-rājayoga and brought him into global
politics. Sun is in the tenth house from rājayoga daśā planet
Saturn.
During Saturn daśā Mars antardaśā, under the popular banner of
national self-determination, he annexed Austria and the
German-speaking Sudetenland of Czechoslovakia in 1938 (Munich
Agreement), only to occupy all of Czechoslovakia early in 1939. Mars
is the Ruchak Mahāpuruśa yoga and shall show remarkable military
prowess during its period. Mars is in the tenth house from rājayoga
planet Saturn.
During Saturn daśā Mercury antardaśā, through threats and promises
of territory, Hitler was able to gain the benevolent neutrality of
the Soviet Union (Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, August 1939). Political
alliances with Italy (Pact of Steel) and Japan consolidated the
Axis. Mercury is the ninth lord involved in a rājayoga in
conjunction with the ātmakāraka and lagna lord Venus. As such the
ninth house indicates signing of alliances. However, Mercury is
strongly influenced by warlord Mars & political Sun and is the
dispositor of mischievous Rāhu. Under such influences the ambitions
were not contained and Hitler dreamt of world domination. On Sept.
1, 1939, Hitler began World War II with the lightning invasion of
Poland. The Saturn-Mercury period is significant in that Saturn was
transiting Aries over natal Mercury and Mercury was transiting
Cancer over natal Saturn. Both these signs and planets in transit
and natal positions were aspected by vargottama Mars from Capricorn.
Under such a powerfully evil star, Hitler made rapid advances. In
April 1940 Denmark surrendered; Norway was taken by an amphibious
operation and in May-June the rapidly advancing tank forces defeated
France and the Low Countries.
Jupiter antardaśā caused the initial setback for the third Reich. On
June 22, 1941, the German army advanced on Russia in the so-called
Operation Barbarossa, which was a disaster of sorts. Jupiter is the
3rd and 6th lord and is strong in Sagittarius. Finally, with the end
of Saturn daśā in 1942, the rājayoga was coming to an end.
Adolf Hitler: Rāhu daśā (1942-51)
Rāhu in the ninth house is in marana kāraka sthāna (house of
death) and shall bring death on Hitler. Its exaltation in the
śatrupada (A6) indicates that the enemies shall prove to be very
strong, more so since Jupiter, the only planet capable of countering
the evil of Rāhu, is also the sixth lord and is ill placed for
success. Śakti Yoga caused by the placement of Rāhu in the ninth
house under aspect by Moon indicates terrible suffering and
destruction. Since these planets aspect the third house from AL
(Virgo) by rāśi driśti, they also indicate death.

With the advent of Rāhu daśā, the first major setback at Stalingrad
(1943) occurred and the long retreat from Russia began. A year later
in Sun antardaśā, the Allies, started advancing on Germany.
When a planet is in marana karaka sthāna, its negative effects are
strongly felt on the lagna and the intelligence of the person begins
to fail him. All the negative features of Rāhu showed on Hitler as
his orders became increasingly erratic and pedantic. He refused to
listen to advice from his generals and dreamt of miracle bombs and
suspected treason everywhere. The desperation caused by such a Rāhu
showed in slogans like "total victory or total ruin."
In Rāhu daśā Moon antardaśā, Adolf Hitler committed suicide (April
30, 1945) when the Russian troops were in the suburbs of Berlin. The
Śakti yoga functioned and the rājayoga ended. There are various
classic combinations for homicide and suicide.
