My name is Tanya and i have recently started taking some interest in mahavidya devi (apart from horoscope and nakshatra astrology) . I have been reading regarding their significance and mantras. However, i always see an indication that their mantra should only be recited after being guided by a guru. Considering i am very new to this and don’t have a strong sanskrit pronunciation and grip over the language i may miss some things in the mantra. I also correct it and try to recite it better. I have been doing this out of interest (not very frequently, but only after i read into something) and do not necessarily want to get involved in the tantric vidya but more as a spiritual happiness from it’s recitation. I would like to know about your opinions regarding doing the mantra of any devi without any proper guidance, would it backfire if done with a right intention and without following any rigid rituals?
I attained the curiosity to ask you this, as in one of the comments you mentioned all the devi are same. I was very curious about your stand on the rituals and practise of their mantras.
Also, i have another question.
I have maternal roots from himachal pradesh where we take mata chamunda ji as our kul devi. I have a huge faith in her. Though i am told she is the one involved with destruction of chand and mund (the rakshas) i have a feeling just like any other mahavidya devi whose temple are in himachal and widely praised, chamunda must be anyhow a mahavidya too. I can’t find any great literature on it.
Do you think there is any book you would like to recommend where i can quest this thirst of knowledge and know very deeply about these mahavidya and other devis? something by prashar with english interpretation?
