Śrī Jagannāth Center announces its first workshop in the study of Dhana Yoga. This workshop shall lay the foundation for the study of wealth and career directions. There are three pivots to the study of life and these are the three charts – lagna, sūrya and chandra chakra. The role played by each of these charts is to be examined in the first day of this two-day workshop. On the second day, we examine the role of Devaguru Bṛhaspati as the kāraka. It is interesting that all three sattva guṇa planets – Sun, Moon and Jupiter play such an important role in life.

Two Day Workshop with Sanjay Rath at 50 Gloucester Place
Monday 1st & Tuesday 2nd May
10am-5.00pm Sanjay Rath. Navamsha and Purusartha
Dharma (agni), artha (prthvi), kama (vayu) and moksha (jala) in the nakshatra pada forms the impulse of the manas (mind). Puruṣārtha is being discussed by other scholars during the conference – so we shall really not be talking on that. Instead we shall use the four aims to study some dictums of Parāśara and other classic texts. Here is a gist of what we discuss –
① Kārakāṁśa and Lagnāṁśa – to see the functioning of śubha yoga – how this works in the charts of royalty, other people as well as criminals. Śubha kendra helps the aims while aśubha spoils them – implications.
② Money Matters – what the ‘artha puruṣārtha’ shows and how can this can show major setbacks or rise in life. If navāṁśa does not support, dasāṁśa cannot give results – after all, navāṁśa really controls karma manifestation.
③ Marriage, relationships and celibacy. How to judge the character of people – these are some of the points related to kāma. It’s all about your emotional life.
④ Mokṣa dictums and some secrets about the devatā that really matters for your spiritual path. We will examine Ketu as mokṣa kāraka in great detail.
⑤ āruḍha: How does the āruḍha fit into all this? Importance of the Āruḍha Lagna in allowing manifestation. Maybe you have a great dhana yoga in rāśi/navāṁśa, but will the āruḍha allow this to function? How does the āruḍha connect to the navāṁśa? This is a dictum of Parāśara related to ‘āruḍha kendra-nātha’ – that’s the clue.
⑥ nāḍi navāṁśa: If time permits, I will teach the nāḍi navāṁśa also.

The four spiritual paths of karma-yoga, bhakti-yoga, rāja-yoga, and jñāna-yoga examined through Jyotiṣa. Starting with Puruṣārtha as Jyotiṣa Foundation, we learn how the desires in the soul shall manifest. Pain and suffering is not due to the desire itself, but due to attachment to the desire.

The four spiritual paths of yoga viz. karma, bhakti, raja, and jñāna are those of the chara ātmakāraka with other charakāraka. While all four paths are very desirable, not all are easy for the individual. We examine the formation of these yogas, their obstacles and the soul’s journey through this mundane existence.

JaiminiLogoWhen we taught the Upadeśa Sūtra of Maharṣi Jaimini in a course (Jaimini Scholar Program 2007-11), there were just a few students from India. Of these three scholars formed a group and taught the course in the Himalayas to a dozen students who will be graduating as scholars in 2017. Hopefully some of them will take the certification viva-voce and qualify as Jaimini Scholars and an even fewer number will qualify as JSP teachers. Certification is done by an independent board of scholar-teachers headed by Steve Hubball. Please visit www.jaiminisutra.com for detailed information in this regard.

JSP 2017

With the aim of preparing another batch of scholar-teachers of the Upadeśa Sūtra, we have decided to teach the Jaimini Scholar Program once again. Unlike the first time when all classes were taken by Pt. Sanjay Rath, this time it will be taught by a team of scholars in the Himalayas. The team includes Sarbani Rath and Ajay Zharotia. In future, we may add other scholars to this team.

Take a look at the website for the course www.upadesasutra.com

Each year is basically one adhyāya of the Upadeśa Sūtra, except the 3rd adhyāya that is studied in two academic years – year3 and 4.

Traditional Method

The sūtra are taught in the oral tradition in the Himalayas and attendance is compulsory. We are not going to have any video-conferencing or such lectures. Classes commence at 8am and continue till 5pm ending with recitation of Vedic Hymns. It may seem impossible to do such hectic studies, but believe me, this feeling is wrong as hundreds of students have studied in this vedic pattern for the last decade through both JSP as well as PJC. You too will automatically fit into this.

One of the worries is what if you cannot attend one of the five-academic years of JSP in the Himalayas. We have contingency plans which include having private tuition with a Jaimini Scholar to cover the missed portions of the JSP. However, this can entail a small additional cost to the scholar-teacher which is to be paid directly. Normally this does not exceed ₹2000 per hour.
