Understanding Enmity ~ Case study of Emperor Hirohito

Introduction

One’s growth is the prime cause for enmity between individuals.  As a person grows in life in stature, it is usually at the cost of some one else’s gains.  This is why enmity between individuals grows.  Enmity is, thus, seen from the 6th bhava which is also a upachaya.  The two natural significators of enmity are Mars (anger) and Mercury (mental thoughts).  However, enmity exists in the material world or the world of maya. Therefore, enmity is mainly seen from the Arudhapada of the 6th house, which is also known as Shastaarudha[1] (A-6); and, also the Varnada[2] (V6) of the 6th house, which shows the support one gets from the relatives.

Having dertermined the fact about enmity, the next thing to be seen is whether the native will fight at all or not and, if help is coming, from what directions/persons will such an help come from.  While the personal prowess to fight or otherwise is seen from the 3rd and 6th houses of the Arudhalagna, those of the enemy is seen from the similar houses from the Shastaarudha (A-6).  If naturally benefic planets such as Jupiter, Venus, Mercury etc., are disposited in either of these two houses (3rd & 6th) from the Arudha Lagna, the person does not fight and he actually renounces the material world.  Whereas, a similar placement in the 3rd/6th house from Shastaardha (A6) will indicate the enemy being vanquished.

The support from relatives is seen from the Varnada Lagna. The support of maternal uncles and other relatives in the case of self is seen from the 6th house from the Varnada lagna, while in the case of enemy, it is seen from the 6th house from the Shastavarnada or V-6.

Malefic planets, as compared to the benefics, give very good results in the 6th house[3] as it is a upachaya.  While the benefic planets encourage renunciation or the lack of will to fight, the malefic planets promote qualities such as gallantry, strong physique etc., and the natural ability to fight.  However, if any of these planet(s) placed in the 6th is debilitated then it results in Rajyoga.  If such a debilitated planet is also retrograde, the enemy gathers strength later on and overcomes the person.  If the debilitated planet is placed in an exalted Navamsa, then the Neechabhanga Rajyoga results in sudden elevation/success and if such a planet is also retrograde, then the elevation/success is for a short duration as, when such planet gets retrograde in transit the person will fall from power.

Case Study

Following is the chart of Emperor Hirohito who was born on 29th April 1901 at 21.5’ zone 9.00 Tokyo (350 N 42’ and 1390 E 46’).

Mercury is the Atmakarak in his chart and the dasa of Atmakaraka is known to be destructive to the native.  Here, the Atmakarak is not only in debility but is also vargottama and is in the 2nd from Arudha Lagna, thus, becoming marak for the Arudha Lagna.  In the instant case, the advent of Mercury antardasa in Jupiter dasa (24th June 1945) spelt doom for the Japanese and allied forces.

A closer look at the chart would reveal that the Shatrupada or A6 (Sagittarius) conjoined by Saturn and Jupiter is stronger than the Arudha Lagna (Aquarius).  The conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn (R) afflicts Jupiter and being in close conjunction, Saturn gives the results of Jupiter and vice-versa.  The affliction meant that during the Jupiter-Jupiter dasa Japan not only entered war, but also almost over-ran the entire SE Asia.  But soon after the advent of Saturn antardasa it also tasted defeat.

To understand the dasa even better, let us examine the Shastamsa or D-6 chart of Emperor Hirohito.  Pisces rises in his D-6 and the lord Jupiter has gone to Simha the 6th house indicating a period of war during Jupiter’s dasa.  Once again Saturn afflicts Jupiter in the 6th house in Shastamsa and the same results accrue as discussed earlier.  The lords of the 2nd and 7th houses in the Shastamsa are the real killers and if placed in the lagna the native suffers while if in the 6th the enemy suffers.  Here, Mercury, being the lord of the 7th in the D6 chart is not only in debility but is also placed in the lagna indicating that the native will suffer a deadly blow.  It was during Jupiter Dasa – Mercury antardasa that Japan suffered the deadliest attack which left it crippled and forced it withdraw from war.  The twin cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were bombed with atom bombs.  The bombing of the twin cities is also indicative of the dual nature of Mercury.
